The causes and effects of staying up late

Along with the development of the time and progress of society, the lives of all the people in such a fascinating world have been greatly changed than before. As the pace of people’s lifestyle speeds up, their living pressure is getting heavier. Nowadays, staying up late has become a new normal of people’s lifestyle. Many studies have revealed that there is an increasing number of people who stay up late, and even it has reached an astonishing and alarming rate, which becomes a fear to the whole society. Taking everything into consideration, from my point of view, both the endless tasks and the multifarious temptations are considered as the essential causes of staying up late; hence, these may lead to an unhealthy lifestyle. Now, let me elaborate on my points.

          First and foremost, to accomplish the endless tasks given within the tight deadline, without any doubt, is one of the main causes of staying up late. It is commonly believed that making a living in today's high-tech world requires a new mix of skills as well as we have to complete the tasks given as quickly, accurately and perfectly as possible. As usual, we have our hands full with the relentless task all day in order to complete them within the deadline. Needless to say, there are lots of people who cannot keep up with this kind of lifestyle. In this case, they can only exchange the outstanding performance with their health by burning the midnight oil. In short, people have to stay up late by virtue of the never-ending tasks given to them.

          On top of that, it is without any shadow of doubt that being attracted by the multifarious temptations is another significant cause of staying up late. Along with the development of science and technology, the temptations in our daily lives have greatly increased as compared with ancient times. For examples, playing computer games, watching Korean dramas, clubbing with friends, etc. It can be easily seen that multitudinous recreational activities catch our eyes before we go to bed and make us not willing to sleep earlier but to do these inconsequential activities. Briefly, staying up late is also blamed for the attractive temptations in our surroundings.

          These may result in some detrimental effects, such as an unhealthy lifestyle.

In my way of thinking, staying up late can affect our health in the dark. Even though the lifestyle of staying up late helps us accomplishes the task within the deadline and gives us a chance to do some recreational activities before bed, it is actually hazardous to our health conditions. According to many scientific researches, one who always stays up late may suffer short-sightedness, hypomnesia, hypomania and the list goes on more easily than others who take regular sleep. Besides, it is important to mention that this kind of effect is irreversible, so we should not cultivate the habit of staying up late. Thus, there is no doubt that staying up late endangers our body and we should get rid of this unhealthy habit.

          In a nutshell, there are multitudinous causes and effects of staying up late. To sum up, both the relentless tasks given and the multifarious temptations are considered as the essential causes of staying up late; therefore, these may result in an unhealthy lifestyle. In a word, it is impossible that everything could come up to our expectations and everything in this vast and wide world is a double-sided sword; hence, we need to look before we leap in order to avoid the detrimental effects brought by it. As the saying goes, “taking a break is for accomplishing a longer journey,” in spite of having our hands full with endless tasks, sometimes, we must forget about troubles and drop everything because excessive working without relaxation will only make us endure torments all the time. Finally, we have to lead a healthy life because health is the greatest wealth.
