The advantages and disadvantages of both parents working

Along with the development of the times and progress of society, the lives of all the people in such a fascinating world have been greatly changed. As the pace of people’s lifestyle speeds up, their living pressure is getting heavier; nowadays, it is obviously harder to make both ends meet as compared with the ancient times. This can be shown by the following examples. At present, the phenomenon of both parents working has skyrocketed voluminously. Many people think that this situation is completely detrimental for the family, but this is not always the case. Taking everything into consideration, from my point of view, there are both advantages and disadvantages of both parents working. Through both parents working, it is beneficial to the family's finance and children’s personal development. Nevertheless, the children who are left at home alone may often feel less attention and affection from their parents. Now, let me elaborate on my points.

First and foremost, there is no doubt that the increase of family income is one of the crucial benefits of both parents working. In the ancient age, there was a tradition that the father was the only one who went to work to make money whereas the mother stayed at home to do the household chores and took care of their children. This kind of lifestyle was sustained for thousands of years around the world. However, with the passage of time, this kind of lifestyles is slowly eliminated as if it was lost in the sands of time; now, both parents work to earn money in order to make both ends meet. In this way, the family's economy will be improved and even they can enjoy a better life. On the other hand, they can also lead a healthy life by purchasing better food materials and fitness equipment. In short, the financial problems of the family will be solved and they can enjoy a better quality of life if both parents decide to work.

On top of that, the children are able to acquire the ability of living independently in the event of both parents working. So far as we know, many a study have revealed that the environment will unconsciously affect one's personality. On condition of being alone at a place and nobody could lend a helping hand, they will become more independent and skillful as compared with others who are always accompanied by their parents. Other than that, their time management skills will be greatly improved while the characteristics of courageousness can be brought up simultaneously too. As a consequence of being independent and mentally tough, they may become  successful and useful people in the near future because independence is the foundation for success, the lifeblood of success, and the capital of success. Furthermore, they may help their parents to do housework, thereby reducing their living burdens as well. Therefore, the condition of both parents working, without any doubt, contributes to students’ personal development.

Notwithstanding the multitudinous advantages it possesses, some disadvantages exist. In my way of thinking, I’m absolutely certain that the children left at home alone may feel less attention and affection from their parents. It is a common belief that loneliness is associated with higher rates of depression, anxiety and suicide. This is because human beings are social animals and thus always seek the companionship of others as part of their well-being. Needless to say, one cannot be left alone in the middle of nowhere for a long while; otherwise, he will likely face the problem of psychological distortion and lead an excruciating life. Unfortunately, this pain cannot be thoroughly healed again and will torture him right up till the end of his life. Besides that, the worst situation is that they may commit crime for capturing the attention of their parents and the public. On the whole, loneliness and depression may fall prey to those who are living in the families of both parents working.

In a nutshell, there are lots of pros and cons of both parents working. In this day and age, this is a hotly-debated topic that often divides opinion of both for and against this phenomenon. Weighing up both sides of the argument, in my opinion, if both parents choose to work, the family's financial problems can be solved and the children may grow up as an independent person; however, it is impossible that everything could come up to our expectations, this lifestyle may result in some detrimental effects such as depression faced by their children. As the saying goes, “everything has a price,” we have to consider deeply when making every decision by knowing its advantages and disadvantages. When all is said and done, as a matter of fact, the decisions made by parents are for the well-being of their children. As parents, they have to think about the efficiency of their decision; and vice versa, as children, we have to put ourselves in our parents’ shoes and apply ourselves hard to become a considerate and responsible person.
